Allegory of Peace, Art and Abundance - Hans von Aachen. 197x142
Hans Aachen (1552-1615) - a representative of German mannerism in painting, famous for his allegories and paintings on mythological and religious subjects. The large-format canvas depicts a solemn celebration on the occasion of the unity of Peace, Art and Abundance. The world is a naked girl in the center of the composition, whose body is depicted according to the canons of mannerism. In her hands - an olive branch - a symbol of peace. Personalized Art embraces the World by the shoulder. The back to the viewer is represented by the Abundance, which holds the World Cup with wine. Military attributes trampled: drums, spears and armor are superfluous at this holiday. It is not for nothing that the artist placed the World in the center, because the well-being of art depends on it. The composition is not devoid of theatricality, which is emphasized by red curtain material framing the action.
The painting entered the Hermitage from the imperial palace in Gatchina in 1925.
